More Than 7 Million People Went to Vote for the 5th Mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election

Phnom Penh: The number of people who voted for the 5th mandate Commune/Sangkat Council 2022 on 5 June 2022 was nearly 7.1 million, which is equals to more than 77.91%. This is according to the announcement of the Chairman of the National Election Committee on 5 June 2022.

NEC Chairman Prach Chan confirmed that more than 7.1 million people were just preliminary data because some citizens are abroad while some communes have not sent their data in yet; however, this number is still considerable more than in some other countries.

"This is normal in the election and compared to other countries in the world, this number is quite large," he said.The 5th Commune/District Council Election of Cambodia was held on Sunday, 5 June 2022, with the participation of 17 political parties in total. These parties will compete to hold 11,622 commune council seats from 1,652 communes and districts nationwide, with more than 9.2 million registered voters.

Preliminary results of the election will be announced by the NEC around 6 pm this Sunday.
